I've been in a relationship for almost 8 years. We live together and have 2 children who are both in school full time. We sometimes talk about getting married, but he doesn't seem to even think about at least a propsal. I don't mind waiting a few more years before having a ceremony, but it would be nice to know I have his commitment. How long is long enough?

Like 12 inches. Oh wait, that wasn't what you were asking. Never mind... :-)

Too long was before the children.

Now he thinks he has you forever, and why get married?

Hell, just go buy yourself a damned ring and pretend.

WTF difference does it make now?

He's never given me any jewelry. I wouldn't care if its a diamond or not. As long as it would at least symbolize our commitment to each other right? I've given him jewlery, but if I hint at something, he makes a face and walks away. What am I supposed to think of that?

I don't think a piece of paper makes anyone more commited. 8 years, you live together, and have 2 children together, sounds pretty commited to me. What will really change for you if you marry?

8 years!! I mean, wtf? Might as well get married. Do you know why he hasn't proposed yet? Have you tried to propose to him?

I've propsed and he just says not until we buy our own house. I really don't want to be a forever girlfriend. Would it be wrong to buy a ring and throw it at him when we reach the 10 yr mark and he still doesn't budge? At the rate things are going, we may never buy our own house.

You already have kids.....why bother signing papers now? If he hasn't been unfaithful to you I would think he is committed.
