It depends on the person and the issue.

For really important trust issues, where I have a lot on the line, I will only give one chance.

I believe in the old adage:
F*ck me once shame on you. F*ck me twice shame on me.

A lot.
But I would not be continuously hurt, and my feelings would eventually die. When the indifference sets in, that is it.

For me there is no magic number. I've forgiven some really bad stuff done to me before in relationships, and moved on. Eventually, though, something just snaps. Like this light that burns out at some point and everything I feel just vanishes -- and when I'm done, I'm done. There's no going back.

One. I don't give second chances, I've never seen that end well.

I give second chances but it does depend on the circumstances. I try and understand, no one is perfect because neither am I.

It depends on what the situation is and what the relationship is. I give siblings and other family members more chances than I do nonrelated people.

Basically, I listen to my gut instinct about the person and ask myself if my life would be better with this person out of it.

If it was a moment of weakness or folly, it might be understandable. But if it is a character trait, it would be irreversible. That ought to make it easier to decide.
