I've been known to turn away if I am alone... If it is a man, I immediately do something to deflect. It is dangerous to be approached by a homeless male like in a parking lot. People who plan harm approach women when they are close to their vehicle and are alone. And the statistics are that a large proportion of homeless individuals are drug abusers and basically involved in the criminal element of society so it is better to give money to agencies that help homeless people in a more holistic way as opposed to giving a couple dollars which is like giving a band-aide for a deep gapping wound. Chances are homeless people know where to find real help so if they are asking for a band-aide on the street there is a good chance they are collecting on the streets in order to buy drugs.

It greatly depends on their levels of sobriety and sanity. I won't risk my life in this way, at this time. I will always buy you a sandwich if you're hungry tho.
