How much do you tip your pizza delivery driver?
Delivering pizzas is what I do for a living, and ever since gas prices dropped, my tips have dropped to (seriously) almost nothing. I'm not sure people realize I make minimum wage without tips. On top of using my own gas, driving my own car.... but lately I can work an 8-hour shift and only come home with 10 bucks.

Not being able to figure out why in my mind, I'm asking you guys. What do you tip the driver and why?

I often wonder if people think they don't have to tip because there's a delivery charge. FYI: I don't get any of that.

One final note..... if you don't have enough money to give me a tip for BRINGING YOUR PIZZA TO YOU, why aren't you out at the grocery store spending less money and getting more food for your buck?

First of all, the driver keeps the change out of the dollar. Then I tip approximately ten to twenty percent, depending on how friendly the driver is. If the weather is crappy, I'll tip more.

There is no delivery in the middle-of-nowhere Arizona. :( However, on the rare occassion I'm in town and ordering out, I tip the standard 20% plus a delivery charge (not the one the company is adding) because, like a regular server, you're bringing me something but, unlike a regular server, you're bringing it to me at my house!!! :) Yeah, Pizza Delivery Guy!!!

I hear my daughter tips hers 20%, delivery charge, and a couple of bong hits.

Depends how far away the pizza place is. I only live about a mile away, so it's usually 2 or 3 bucks on a $15 delivery. I sympathize with your position, but if your job isn't working out for you, maybe you should find a better one.

I don't usually order delivery pizza, but I would tip at least 20% like I would at a restaurant.

I live in an area too far away for pizzas to be delivered :(

But when I lived near civilization, I always thought the same tipping rates went for delivery people as servers in a restaurant (15-20%) Or at least 1-2$ if I'd ordered something really cheap.

I pick up my own pizza to avoid the delivery fee and tipping.

These guys have a lousy job - I go with the standard 20%.

I used to date a pizza delivery driver, so I know to tip well. I tip at least 20%, and more if the weather is bad. And because my address is known for a decent tip, we get really, really fast delivery. Our pizzas get to my house in twenty minutes, even when it's so busy the phone girl is predicting waits of an hour.

I rarely order delivery anymore but if I do, I tip usually $2-$3 dollars as many companies already factor in a delivery fee.
If this doesn't go to the driver than who benefits from a "delivery charge"? That SHOULD go to the employee as far as I'm concerned, I think most people assume it does.
