Its tough. <br />
I used the strategy of finding someone who was in the same class and we would do it at the same place:<br />
So I'd go to my friend's house and we would set up on his kitchen table and work at the same time. Motivates you to work more by creating a disincentive to screw around (don't want to look bad right?)<br />

Or take up smoking j/k (I did that, but I wouldn't suggest it)<br />

The problem is that dealing with physical and mental pain is also something people have to do while working, not just studying.<br />

That's a tough one. Pain is an issue for me too, every day. I think you can reach a point though, where you sort of Zen yourself into study mode and finally the pain takes a back seat to the brain. Sometimes it isn't possible, though. I used to tutor and type college papers for extra income-- I've given it up, but then, I'm old too (haha). Gets harder and harder to reach that Zen level. Weed helps a lot.
