How to keep a dog from licking a wound?

My little Corgi had surgery and the wound was closed with staples. Now that the staples are removed (and the banages) he is licking himself raw. I know not to put the "nasty flavoured goop" on the wound. I've tried rewrapping the area(he tears it off), offering treats and attention, and keeping him at my side so I can try to keep him from licking. I can not obtain a anti-lick "Elizabethan Collar" until the Vet reopens on Monday. In the mean time I'm quickly becoming vexed. Ideas please?

Mke a collar out of a cardboard box or cereal box. Just enough to prevent his head from moving.

ask your vet for one of those cone things you tick on their heads-suprised they didn't give one to you

The cone works if they can't get to it - my golden always found some way to reach it even with the cone, or made a new wound because he was so OCD!! Good Luck!
