    or a bookstore with some weekly activity ...
    go repeatedly to create a presence
    before long, people will migrate to you

    Hmm I'd search for things that you do like to do. Like clubs (not like bars or anything) but things that interest you like reading, or coffee shops, malls, stuff like that =)

    meetups are a great start. Also remember meeting people is about the other people too. Sometimes we need to do things we may not like to make others happy and establish friendships.

    talk to homeless people. that's how i got connected to some really seedy types when i lived in mtl
