I would just admit it and do my best to not lie to that person. Personally, im pretty honest and if i get into a situation where i may be tempted to lie then I tell them that Id rather not tell them because I dont want to lie. People actually respect that and don't press me further.

lying only makes it worse in the end. why lie about them if they was insignificant?

most people who lie a lot get so lost in their lies they don't understand how obvious it is to others. The only reason more people don't confront them is because the person would just lie again to get themselves out of an uncomfortable situation.
