Moral choices that go against the ebb and flow of societies moral basis.

Best Answer

What if society's popular 'moral' values are wrong?

Best Answer

Then they'd be considered 'bad', even if they're doing the right thing, wouldn't they. Because right and wrong is essentially your set of moral choices. Or Media's set of moral choices. Up to you.

Best Answer

How do you decide which 'moral' choices are right and which are wrong?

Best Answer

You don't. Thats why they're moral choices.
They have nothing to do with right or wrong as a blanket rule. Only what YOU perceive is wrong and what YOU perceive is right.

Simply a matter of perspective.

Say some one stole food. Than it would be bad.

But if a starving man stole food for his starving family from a dictator would it still be bad?

While its the same act and all you know more are the reasons for the act it can change your perspective of it.

Hence bad is a matter of perspective.

Best Answer

Who's perspective?

Best Answer

Depends on who you ask.
Any deed one percieves as bad another can view it diffrently. This is at the core of the human race. Everyone has there own perspective and thats the beauty of it :)

Best Answer

Correction: 'Whose perspective?'

Best Answer

Fundamentally, what would cause one person to view as 'good' what another views as 'bad'?

Best Answer

In the example i gave the dictator would view it as bad. And the peasant that stole as something good. The outside observer is somewhere in between. Stealing is generally considered bad. And saving you family is something that is generally considered good.
Where you are on that line as an outside observer defines your perspective. Why it is like that only you can awnser. So to awnser your question, I dont know people have there reasons to see things the way they do. What those reasons are depends on who you ask.

Best Answer

The thief in your example may still believe that it is bad to steal but feel driven to do so in order to alleviate his desperate situation.

And so his perspective, his view that this is the solution to his dire predicement. Overrules his thought of it as bad. And in some ways it becomes good.
And that exactly is wat im talking about. Your view your perspective is neither good nor bad. Its a grey line you walk in between. Wich direction you lean towards if any defines your view on the subject.
When you hear the "wise old men" talk of good and bad being one of the same. The whole ying yang story.
To me it simply means that no one is one or the other more a bit of both. Since no one wil look at anything in the same way. Wat you percieve as good some may see as bad. No matter how disillusioned you think they are its simply there view on the matter.
