How would you describe the typical 'American'?

Unfortunately, when so many Americans here on EP ask questions as if only Americans inhabited this site, it's all to easy to form stereotypical views of you! e.g. thoughtless, self centred and unaware of other cultures and nationalities! Even though many of you boast about the multinational aspect of your society (something many other countries can boast about too of course) you seem to think that the countries those people came from no longer exist!

Please, understand that there is a whole world out there, consisting of some 190 countries or so! Then, perhaps, our views may change!

Childlike. Gullible. Anxiety ridden. Generally fear filledl.

WTF? There's a whole wide world outside of the USA? Get f**ked- you're kidding me, right?

We live in 50 different States. Therefore we have different dialects. Some live in cities, some in the country. We come from ALL races and religions. Many times we don't agree with each other. BUT one thing I KNOW, that is typical of MOST Americans, when someone hurts one or more of us at a time, WE Pull Together no matter, the race or religion, the state we are from, our southern or northern dialects or whether we are from cities or from the country. Other than that, we are just human beings, trying to survive on a constantly changing planet, in a constantly changing global economy.

I don't think there is such a thing.

There are no "typical" Americans, just as there are no "typical people from anywhere. Each person is who they are, depending on their own self and life that they jhave lived. Stop being so prejudgemental and lame, hon.

I think us Americans would be rather shocked and surprised on how other countries and peoples around the world would describe us.

We are a country made up of many different peoples and cultures, but those same differences are less cohesive today than ever before some might use the word coercive.

At one extreme, one might use the adjectives, Proud, United, Strong, Free, Industrious, seeks Truth and Justice.

At the other extreme some might use the words, Arrogant, Hubristic, Obese, Selfish, Militaristic, Stupid.

BUT like in all countries everywhere, the TYPICAL reality is people just want to live their lives, raise their families, enjoy their accomplishments, get along and do it all with as many freedoms and beliefs this world can provide.

Unfortunately, every country to some degree or another uses "polarizing propaganda" that convolutes what a typical anything might actually be.
