I guess I'd learn how to make candles....and I'd get one of those books about how people used to live. If electricity just disappeared one day, there would be a crisis, and death. But I believe that people are fairly resilient, and that society would simply revert to the ways that our ancestors lived. I have a fireplace. I have an ax. There are trees around for firewood. I would have to rig up the fireplace for cooking. I would have to purchase a firearm and perhaps learn to hunt and to provide for my son and for myself that way. I also have a couple of cage traps that I could use for catching things...there's plenty of wildlife where I live right now, though i would probably find some way to get back down to live with my mom and take care of her. I have seeds for planting in the spring as well. There's wildlife there too, and land for farming.
I already know quite a few people who live in a fairly self sustaining way. Around here, there are even people who live without plumbing or electricity. It's ironic how those folks, who have always been persecuted for being poor or "backwards" would become the leaders and teachers in a new world without electricity. I think that there are already quite a few communities that function in the old way....we would have to learn how they do it. Hopefully, the government would step in and compile information and have it distributed. I guess the pony express would have to come back into use.

I'm willing to sacrifice using electricity if it means the planet will be healthier. Electricity is nice, but not a necessity.
