Resolved Question

How's heaven in Islam? Is it true that idea of 72 (or 1000? )virgins for men? What's in in for women?

Any Muslims in here that can explain if there is any truth in this idea of heaven? It's a place filled with earthly pleasures like gold, food and for the men eternal submissive virgins called Houris?

And what the women get it? The same amount of hot studs to play with ??

ps: @notdarcy:

Please see that my question is not focused on the main point but rather a very specific detail. Most important is what the Muslins believe in ... one scholar is not much against everybody else that translate as it says right? So, the faithful are indeed in the belief that Heaven is a place of earthly pleasures like gold, food and female virgins for each man. I'm after the details that seem to be totally unfair to women. A life of servitude and post life to more servitude? And if there was ever a time where Islam was a religion of social progress for women, It seems it has changed a lot from the time you mention ?

I thank you for your answer but it does not really explain why men and women have such difference of rewards while alive and afterlife.

And I'm not a fan of Christianity either by the way. They also are pretty clear that women is second to men. But at least they stopped stoning their women to death and paradise is more or less the same... It seems to me there is no worse destiny that to be born a woman into the Islam religion. And do they have a choice? And I wonder what happens if they even try to get out of it?

Anybody looking at a religion conceived in the Arabian peninsula of the 7th century and appalled that it doesn't match up to contemporary ideas of social equality is being pretty anachronistic at best.
At the time,Islam represented considerable social progress - particularly for women. It took the Christian West centuries to catch up.
As for Heaven,at least one notable Islamic scholar has said the "celestial harem" idea is based on a mistranslation.
The main point is that the righteous go there and the sinful don't - same as Christianity.

There was an episode of "Family Guy" where the suicide bomber gets to heaven and instead of 72 beautiful virgins there are 72 nerds in Star Trek costumes playing Magic the Gathering

Most mainstream religions like Christianity and Islam treat women as substandard...So...more than likely, there is nothing in Islam for a woman other than servitude..fck that. I serve myself. :)

Yep, welcome to the hornet's nest. All I can say is I'm not going to be somebody's plaything in the afterlife, thank you very much.

(And I'm pretty sure I'm not a 60 year old spinster who smells of cats...I don't even like cats.)

Here is a forum I went to for answers to my question. I had a similiar question as you. This is an Islamic forum, and many Muslims answered back to the question posed about the idea of virgins in Al-Jannah

My personal opinion is that this is unfair to the women, regardless of the arguments for it. However, you may read the posts and judge the responses for yourself.^_^

Well if they're virgins, are they like annoying teeny-bopper girls that are all about "like, your shoes sooo don't match!"

I think the virgins are supposed to be perpetually virginal. Can you imagine? Having to be a virgin over and over and over again with thousands of dead men? EEEEWWWW! Sounds like hell to me......

Actually, various cultures have various ideas of what heaven is. The Vikings thought it was drinking beer and fighting battles. Medieval Europeans thought it was looking down from golden cloud-palaces and jeering at the people in hell. I can't recall any culture that had heavenly rewards for women - I think we were expected to just continue serving and servicing.

The real question is: Are there 72 Male or female virgins for the Islamic men? Jeff Dunham posed that question to Achmed, the dead terrorist and you should have seen his response! Youtube Jeff Dunham and watch the Achmed, the Dead Terrorist and watch the clips. You'll **** your pants laughing!

I am not muslin.....But I heard that it was 70.....

But ya have to think...>With that many virgins....They can only have sex 70 times.....Or maybe never...For when they have heavenly sex....He has one less virgin....Hmmmmm maybe that was something that they never thought of

The story of the virgins is not in the Qur'an - it is part of the series of writings (Hadiths) that were compiled into the Qur'an. The Qur'an does talk of "fair females" in heaven, with wide eyes cast downward except in the presence of their husbands or masters.

In the Qur'an, the story is told of the prophet Muhammad being shown Hell, and describing it as mostly full of females and non-believers.

Islam's version of heaven is no more or no less ridiculous than that of Christianity. If you can get past the complexity of it, with its various levels and the envy felt by those on the lower levels toward those who make it to the upper levels (the uppermost level, called Al-Wasilah, is reserved for Muhammad), then it simply becomes a very localized view of paradise. That is, it fits 6th century Mecca's idea of paradise - flowing rivers of milk and honey, endless plates of food, dates and nuts delivered by eager young boys, luxurious silk garments, goblets and trinkets of gold, all "under the shade of swords". Since the Middle East seems stuck in a 6th-century time warp, that sort of vision likely still has appeal.

Additional interesting tidbits from the Qur'an:

The Qur'an claims to be God's "clear and plain answer for everything", yet, like the Bible, it promotes a geocentric view of the Universe (everything rotates around the Earth).

In the Qur'an, it is said that God "preordains" everyone - that is, our place in Heaven or Hell is predetermined. This passage would seem to render all other passages moot and meaningless.
