they are kind of a selfish treat, its like deodorant. The user can barely smell themself, its to appease those around 'emLike (1)

offer them a piece of gum, mint or an Altoid....!

Ask them what they have been eating as their breath smells bad or ask them if they have indigestion...i have not much tact....but i try. Talk about tooth paste or bad teeth oh i dunno!

No getting around it.. Just tell the person that their breath stinks... At least the person cannot say you were not straight and to the point..

I really don't think there is a polite way to do that. Unless you make a point of popping a mint in your own mouth and then offereing them one.
