Old enough to know the effects. People mature at different ages. 18/19 I guess, but the laws aren't really followed anyway.

i and many of my generation had beer introduced at a very early age, as a beverage, with family there should be no restrictions . of course in public there has to be order so 21 is a good age. although there are some exceptions to every rule. i personally believe that a serviceman who has done a tour of duty fighting for our country should have the right to have a few if he wants.

If you're old enough to sign up for military service and possibly die for your country, then you should be able to buy alcohol. Either that, or raise the enlistment age to 21 in the USA along with the voting age. It's a weird tiered system.

    18. As someone else has stated, if you're old enough to fight for your country, you should be old enough to consume alcohol too. The problem governments are trying to tackle is binge drinking (or at least that's the case here in the UK). What they need to do is make drinks the same prices at all pubs and clubs, get rid of 'happy hours' and extend the hours of pubs and clubs. That way, people can't get hold of cheap drinks and try to get them necked before the pub/club closes.

"They" are the government, comprehension please. Personal responsibility goes out of the window when you're half shot on cheap drinks. Make it harder for people to get drunk, it's that simple.

Gotta agree.. If you are eligible to die for your country, then you are eligible to drink in your country.

I care because I am a mother of young teens. And I would like to know what ppls opinions are. Having said that one child will listen to my advice the other will do exactly what they want! haha ohhhh

well ok, but im just saying i don't think most kids listen to the legal drinking age, cos im 14 and most kids i know already get drunk reasonably often. ok, so i just don't think it would matter if the legal age was 16 or 30, there's always gonna be heaps of people who don't care. at all.
