You're right. There is no point to life. So what? Is this too not, in itself, meaningless as well?
The fear of life being meaningless usually stems from the fear of being unimportant. This fear is unprecedented, because nothing is truly important. Sure, if you do not change the world, you are unimportant. However, if you do change the world, why is that important? Why is anything that anyone has ever done important at all? Yes, we remember Leonardo DeVinci's name after all of these years, but what does that matter?
Yes, life is pointless, so therefor there is no pressure to try to change the world if you don't want to. Life is nothing more than a chance to spend a few moments in this existence, to experience what there is to experience, and to enjoy doing it if you can. So, live it. Enjoy it.

to be honest.. it's a good thing you are sensible enough not to go on anti-depressents.. because they are addictive and you'll feel 10 times worse if you try and come off them.
However.. about there being no point.. you have to make that point. .you make you own fate and your own luck with every choice you make. so build on your life, work on yourself.. and in doing this you'll find the point in life.

I can't help you but you should read this book called "The Power of Now'" by Echkert Toll. It was VERY beneficial to me. It really helps you become happy and satisfied without medication. Now, it's not a simple fix but if you practice what he 'preachers' i have no doubt you can be a happier person.

I don't know the point of life yet, but it bothered me for a while (6 months continually, and a number of years and months outside of that sporadically). The end thought that I came up to make myself not feel meaningless and without a point and purpose was that my life is just about living it. I could take a billion different careers, I don't think there's a ONE that some lucky people just seem to have. We have approx 80 years to live and after that whatever happens happens.

Life is what we make of it, and for me (may not be the same for you, but I'm hoping if I give you some ideas, it'll help)--anyway, for me, life is about people. I'm not going to say my life is filled with caring people, it's not, I hate the place I live in currently and it causes me (ironically) low blood pressure and bouts of lost consciousness, but then there are the friends who take me out to eat and the people I call when I'm hysterical. My closest friends live states away so my life isn't about just hanging out. It's about people and words and who shows they love me even when they live hours away.

When I hate my life, I call people who may not consider me the most important in their world but who will at least listen and sometimes even try to help and really be happy for me when I tell them I'm finally getting out. Even if my life doesn't have a point, I want to live it so that I can keep meeting all the people that I will come to care about and leave behind those that don't. New things happen periodically and I don't need a purpose to want to experience them.

Good luck. If any of this was helpful and if you want someone to talk to, feel free to message me, I'm always available. If not, I hope you find something that helps. No pressure. Don't lose hope. (Meaning, in the end, is really a very philosophical thing, and I don't find philosophy very meaningful in commonday life.)

Although they're not strong, certain foods will increase ceritonan (a feel-good chemical in your brain).
mostly fruits that contain antioxidants will do the trick.
Also, fatty foods or high sugar*sucrose, not glucose or cellulose* will bring down ceritonan levels.
Sometimes animal fats can slow down te brain and decrease the chemical.
Excercise will increase levels, as well as vitamin D (the best i've found) which can come from the sun or other foods.
I'm sure if you search for foods that increase this chemcial, you'll find many ways to help your depression. (sorry if i misspelled ceratonan, i'm sure a search will correct it)

I felt like that once. Then I got some counseling and took some anti-depressants and got better.

Then try Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
This is not some pretend cure-all. It really does work.
Here is a link to get a better understanding.

I think most people go through phases like that. To get through it you need to find a focus for your life. No one can do it for you.

Consider a simple test. Ask yourself what it is that you do want? Then spend some time soul searching as it is called and decide for yourself if you are capable of reaching your goal. If you are, then take the steps needed to reach your goal. If you are not, then perhaps its time to consider getting some help.

Remarkably enough, you have already taken the first step, you have reached out and asked for an opinion. A very good first step toward a rewarding solution. Just one small caution, even if all the people who answer your question honestly and thoughtfully, you still face the daunting task of determining who's advice to follow. A very wise man once said "There are billions of hearts in this world, but you can only follow one." I have to agree, ultimately you will have to decide which course to take.

If you prefer to remain organic and not use anti-depressants, then it is possible you may find that you will need to make some changes in your life in an effort to minimize your stress exposure. This isn't an easy thing to do, and often the process itself can be very stressful.

If you make the decision to use anti-depressants, work closely with your doctor. Remember your doctor cannot know how the medicine is effecting you unless you communicate it clearly.

As for the feeling that there is no point to life, I would ask you to consider changing your way of thinking just slightly. Perhaps what is missing in this equation is your own personal meaning to life. Consider developing your own personal montra as it were. Decide for yourself what is important in life and start expending some energy toward your goal. The Chinese say that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Consider taking that first step, however small, however unsure you are, that first step is progress and with time you will come to understand and respect yourself for having the courage it took to begin your journey.

I wish you well my friend, and I empathize with the despair you are feeling. You will overcome this, and when you do you will have the understanding and wisdom needed to help someone else. I will wish you peace and purpose, strength and courage, wisdom and compassion, but most of all I will wish for you happiness.
