ecpc,

It is a nationalistic practice.
It does not "affiliate you to whatever the hell your country gets up to in your"... Wait. What? That doesn't make any sense at all. Whatever the hell your country gets up to? Like wakes up? Or gets arousued? and... in my name? I don't believe my country has gotten up to anything in my name. They barely know my name.
What people do in Australia, in your opinion, doesn't affect the other ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE COUNTRIES. So, that point is shot.
You completely miss the point of a countries flag, and for this reason I am glad that you do not try to fly one. I believe that you would do it incorrectly.

I used to fly a Mexican flag in front of my house. (I'm Mexican)

People would ask: "Why not fly an American flag?"

My reply: Mexico is where my blood comes from. America is just where my *** happens to be. Mexico is just a small schmuck of a country. (Nothing to be ashamed of. Just true) America is a beast of a nation that is embarrassing to most. Mexico has nothing to offer (except slave labor for white people) America has everything and more, yet still is a worldwide bully, and or laughing stock.

I will fly an American flag when we do something that is proud, and worthy of that respect.

NO WAY!!!!!..Its a nationalistic practice which affiliates you to whatever the hell your country gets up to in your name...Say no to nationalism!!! In australia..its only wonna-bes who try to prove how "aussie" they are who do such things...whereas its actually more australian to reject such displays of bragging etc..Sure some of the diggers might,..which they are allowed,..but anyone else doing that is trying too hard..Its way more important to maintain the actual culture and values of a place,..rather than flying some government flag..I would rather fly the indigenous flag if i had to,..or the Eureka stockade flag,.rather than some sucky government flag.

No, and for an embarrassing reason. I am afraid I either wouldn't be here to see a problem or would be unable to maintain it properly.

I would be ashamed. Yeah, germany is one of the leading nations, but how did it come to this, what was the cost? There are still running nazis around, and like most if not all industial nations it would sell its own gradmother for a barrel of oil, I learned here that politics means lying to your own people to get rich and economy is crime and exploitation (of the poor, of course).
People are cool, but nations are evil :)
I am aware, this text is "biting the hand that feeds", and there are of course positive aspects about every country, just to mention it as well, maybe less than deserved. So, sorry for my opinion, doesn't mean to be rude...

I am proud to fly it but usually save it for the important holidays so the flag doesn't get dirty or ruined.

no way.
i think any categorizing that make possible for people to separate instead unite, is bad. including nationalism. and i also find any crowd control manipulating concepts as bad, including patriotism.
so, no.

No, I don't fly my county's flag in my yard because I don't own one, but if I did, I would and I would feel proud to too.

If I did have a flag I would fly it on special days only. It wouldn't be a flag of my heritage, it would be the flag in the nation/country I live in. I wouldn't fly it all the time cause I don't want my house looking like the post office.

If you fly a flag from another nation/country, why do you live in another country. If you fly a flag other than the one your living in, then why are you not living there. Show some respect to at least fly both flags out of respect to the other as well if your gonna do so.

my parents put our flag up in the front yard... my dad went as far as to put a flag pole there one year... it was actually pretty cool and because he is a former marine he knew what needed to be done to maintain it. though until i move out i cant do that quite yet but i think enlisting is proof enough. americans have a bad rep but i love this country and i will fight for it.
