Have you looked into how people read? Most people don't read words from left to right. We look at the letter combos and find the word that way.

Maybe you have a different way of recognizing word patterns that doesn't involve looking at the entire word? And so when you start reading a long word, you forget the first letters by the time you get to the end of the word?
