There is a wonderful website I think might be very helpful to someone in your situation. I've relied upon it for years. It has everything you could ever want to know about meds and their side-effects.

http://www.crazymeds.us/index.htm

It's practical, realistic, and straightforward information provided by someone who's been right where you are. And most importantly, it will help you avoid the landmines of bad advice and misinformation out there.

Hope this helps!

Have you tried herbal remedies - such as Valerian, Chamomile, Bach Flower Remedies? Perhaps if not, call in at a herbalist and see what they would advise.

Another suggestion is to try to find out what is the cause of your anxiety and depression... because unless the Original Cause is found and successfully dealt with, the anxiety and depression (which are symptoms) will not permanently leave. A good psychic may be able to help you track down this...

There are several classes of drugs. It depends on what you have tried and what your reaction was. More information is needed.

I've got the same problem as you do. I cant tolerate the antidepressants for my anxiety, they make me really sick. I have learned that if I focus on my breathing when I feel like I start to panic it helps and I also find that repeating things like this isnt as big as it seems or you can do this you have the strength it seems to help. I dont know what to suggest for the depression other than to try and focus on the good things in your life, you need to identify the good things about your life.

Depression is a tough one but for anxiety I took relaxation therapy. It helped me a ton and is 100% drug free. Once you become good at it you can feel the stress happening and relax yourself. It only takes a few sessions and a bit of practice to get the hang of it.

As crazy and extreme as this might sound, I went vegan at the beginning of last year and was able to go off all my meds. So, maybe changing your diet a little might help.

Sometimes it jus amounts to finding the right combination of meds. I suggest you consult with your doctor...explain the problems you are having, then get yourself a good therapist. They can make all the difference in the world. Good luck to you.

I have taken clonopin for anxiety, and prozac for depression in the past. I took them both at the same time when I was going through a rough time in my life for about 7 months. I liked the clonopin but did not like how the prozac robbed me of some of my personality. I read a book recently about farmacuticals in the U.S. Did you know that the most antidepressants are manufactured and taken in the United States then anywhere else in the world? With that said, it made me really think about the affects of them in general. Its been several years since I took porzac and I still have my bouts of depression, but I would never go back on an antidepressant again. I guess I have just chosen to deal with it on my own terms. I think that for the most part people do not need these "feel good" drugs. Granted there are the severly mentaly affected that do benifit from antidepressants, antianxiety, and antiphycotic drugs, but I think they have become some what of a designer drug. Good luck with fiding what works for you. Just make sure you are talking to your doctor regularly about the affects. He/she will make some changes that may be what you need.

If you are looking for another type of medication, maybe try some type of benzodiazapine. These will definitely help with anxiety, but won't have much affect on depression. If you are looking for an alternative to medication, I would suggest seeing a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist.

Do things both to calm yourself, and to spice up your life :)

it WILL take some hard work, but once you can establish some of these good thuings in your life, it will make a phanominal difference.

You also might try decreasing your stress (wich leads to self-shame) by bringing more order to your life. getting organized, cleaning up your house.

Making changes is a great way as well. Change your living space around, get new curtains... you could even try doing-up a few of your rooms with warm colors (instead of straight white, steel blue or other cold colors, warm colors brin a warmer feeling)

I have been against taking chemical-altering drugs, because I think it diminishes the body's own ability to alter and regulate itself.

I strongly reccomend watching this film: "What the Bleep Do We Know!?" It is engaging, intresting, and educational on a level of personal awareness. Please watch it and think about the implications it speaks of, this may help you.

Try to change your thought patterns. DECIDE not to get upset, use logic more, and your mind will grow to that pattern and start to let go of the depressing chemical releases that your thought patters are used to producing!

:)) I hope I helped tremendously!

I am manic depressive with anxiety, I only use meditation! It's a calming breathing that I do for about an hour a day. It's really easy to due and you can do it laying down, sitting, or standing. I am still depressed all the time, but it's not as gut wrenching and mind hindering as it use to be. The fact is, any herbs you try can make you so much worse so fast. On st. johns wart, I had thoughts of killing others! I have never touched herbal products again!

First find the reason for the anxiety or depression, if you can work out what is causing you to need antidepressants in the first place you're half way to finding the best solution for you, which could be what a few other people have suggested here i.e meditation, massage, reiki, herbal remedies and yes even ******* :)
good luck

Maybe you just need to try a different antidepressant. Some have less adverse effects than others, and anyway the effects vary from person to person.

One that my previous consultant was very keen on stopped me going to the toilet!
