Think it over ... then think it over again. And if you truly feel in your heart it's the right thing to do, then you owe it to yourself to do it. Just realize the Guard is not was it was for decades -- you probably can't do a George Bush and do nothing more than protect Texas from fighter attacks from Viet Nam. These days it means you stand a good chance of going to fight -- and being sent back again and again to fight because the government doesn't want to admit our military is sadly understaffed. But if it is something you feel deeply about, if you feel you'll be doing something worthwhile, then sign up and be proud.

I would say go for it!
You should at least look into it. I'm majoring in Physics, but I also want to go overseas and help third world countries. It's a difficult thing to discuss, but it's worth it. My dad turned out to be fully supportive, and my mother's coming around to it...
If they're obsessed with you getting a high paying job, you could try selling it as a great thing to put on your job applications. More scholarships, internships and so on will be available for you as a result of joining, and it'll give you skills applicable for the work force.
More importantly though, you want to be doing something that matters to you. It's worth it to be in a job that pays little if you enjoy doing it. If I choose to be in community service for the rest of my life, I know it won't feel like work to me. Do what you love! And be happy! I wish you the best of luck!

Do whatever you want, but please, please finish college first. I know so many people who regret joining the military before finishing college. After you have that degree, by all means join the national guard :)

If you want to join the national guard, talk to a recruiter about your options. You can probably continue with college, but you might have to take a hiatus for a few weeks for basic training.
Traditionally National Guard is only a part time gig. My brother was in and yes he did go to Iraq, but his tours were short compared to regular army. Considering your degree plan, they may even encourage you to finish.
Check it out thoroughly. Talk to the recruiter and talk to others who have made similar decisions in similar circumstances. Do what you want, but remember that National Guard, despite changes, is still not regular army, you can transfer into regular army later if you choose.
