Doesn't it depend on the ideas you bring to it? Cezanne's later still lifes are some of the most challenging paintings I know of...

No, not really. there aren't many ideas behind still life. You can show off your technique but at th end of the day you're just painting a bowl of fruit.Like (1)

Well, I suggest looking again at Cezanne's still life work. Those were the paintings which posed the questions leading to Cubism.
