Resolved Question

I have no friends right now, so how should I get some?

I just moved here to Colorado from Hawaii and it can be pretty boring and lonely because I'm used to having a ton of friends all the time. I have my sister-in-law here but she's 22 and I'm 18 so the things she normally would do with her friends are different from what I can do. Plus, she's not much for going out and being around a whole bunch of people, and I am. I love going dancing and all that kind of stuff. School doesn't start until Aug 24 and I really don't want to wait that long. That'd suck.

Well, you could look into getting a job at a social place (restaurant, mall, etc...) where you can have the opportunity to meet friends. This would keep you busy and give you a chance to bank some money!

You could take a summer course of interest.. dancing, art, sewing, photography or whatever that may interest you and meet people in the class. This would keep you busy and you can meet some people.

Another option... You could also go on some sort of social networking thing (like Lavalife or something similar) to request meeting people or chatting with people with the sole purpose of friendship.

Being lonely is not easy, but there are many outlets to where you can make new friends!

go to the park and just talk to people. some might think you're strange but others might be looking for a friend just like you. good luck.

I moved around 2 years ago and like you I moved in the summer the honest truth is I didnt make friends until school started because its hard to make friends outside you get to know more and more people that live near you around ur age group as time goes on :)

Why not try something like volunteering? There are many sectors you could try like arts, caring, environmental etc. You might find like minded people with the same interests, plus you're doing something for the community.

You don't just go out and get friends like you do a box of cheerios! True friends are people that you just meet while you are out and about. Be yourself, do not be shy, and talk to anyone and everyone that you have the opportunity to get to know. And as strawberry bunny suggested, try volunteering somewhere. You will work with others who are kind and considerate, thus why they volunteer.

I went through my whole first year of college and still haven't made any friends there. I couldn't wait to come home for the summer. This coming year I think I'm gonna get a job off campus, because I hate the idea of "college kids" and drinking and that whole scene. I have a bad habit of comparing new people to my current friends at home. So I'm in the same predicament as you, let me know if you are successful!

Check out the communitty's events calendar...maybe you will find like minded people at an event that reflects something you enjoy..I don't recommend just walking up to people in parks though...volunteering was a good suggestion...church if you like that. I would not go out to bars alone in a strange place, even if you can fool the door man. ;)

The easiest way to have friends at college is to be involved in a group. Since you don't want to start something and have to quit when school starts, go to the school and walk around paying attention to the bulletin boards. Make notes of any groups (names and phone numbers) that interest you. Learn where the buildings and offices are. Pick up your parking pass, ID, and/or library card if they'll let you do that early. Then, take your notes and pick out a few activities clearly tied to the school that interests you. Call or email the contacts and let them know you would like to get to know the group better. You will probably get an invite to an organizing or "work" meeting. Check out the yahoo.com or meetup.org groups associated with your college. They may be holding some meetings during the summer. A note of caution from somebody with a few grey hairs. Dishonest groups won't tell you who they are until you show up -- college students are considered gullible and easy pickings for some religous - cultic - sex groups. If anything feels wrong, don't go or leave immediately. Always leave a note on your fridge of any appointments or meetings. However, don't let the baddies steal your joy -- college can be the best time of your life if you get involved.
