I just climbed my tree for 1st time since winter, but the dead branches are everywhere.

I got some down but now I'm covered in gashes and they hurt! Any clever ways to clear out the trees? (that doesn't hurt!)
Also, I should mention these branches are HUGE and they're all tangled up with the alive ones. >_<
