I just purchased a betta fish from rather poor conditions and he has a small patch of fungus - will it go away?

He is in a heated and filtered 5 gallon tank tank now and looks really healthy but has this little patch of fungus on his fin. Will it go away now that he is in a clean environment?

Is This A Good Question? (3)

In my experience they tend to die from that unless you get treatment.

Sounds like a fungus called ich. There are plenty of treatments available in any pet store. If left untreated he could get very bad, possibly even die.

Probably not. The environment is just as healthy for the fungus as it is for the fish.

But I would think his immune function will improve so the fungus can no longer survive.

That sounds like what's called "Ick."

    ...That wiki has treatment methods.

It is not ich. It is one small white patch of fungus on his dorsal. Actually, since bringing him home, it has halved in size.

Maybe, but I would ask around for some kind of drops or something to help get rid of it.

Not an expert on fish but I would say no. They sell fungal treatment in pet shops.
