I think the qualities people admire in dogs, aren't as obvious in cat behaviour. But anyone who's had a cat knows that they can be every bit as loyal and loving as dogs are reputed to be; cats just tend to be more independent. And you CAN get them to do things you want---you just have to make it worth their while.

Agreed, I have a jet black cat atm and I've taught him that when he's doing something wrong I'll click my fingers...whether he pays any attention is another matter but that's why I love him, because he has a strong personality!

Dogs obey. Some people have issues with the lack of control they have over cats. Cats are free creatures, independent and selfish...but to me, thats part of their brilliance and charm. They stay because they choose too, not because they depend on you to survive. Theirs is a want-based love...not need-based.

I don't think most dog lovers hate cats, I think they love animals generally speaking. It is interesting though, this dog/cat question. Its very simple, as I see it! People who are not accustomed to overt displays of affection, or giving it, prefer cats. People who love dogs love hugs, and overt displays of affection. Two opposite things. So its good there are felines for one type of person, and canines for another type of person. Sorted!

Yeah. The cat in my avitar took possession of the 85 lb dog when he was a tiny kitten, would "make him" lay down and just act as a blanket, and be gentle with him. He also got the dog to be his body guard. Now, at 23 lbs, he'll pounce on the dog!

I love cats more than dogs. I like dogs but I am sorry i would much rather have a kitty. My cat Bella was discovered under a house at 4 weeks old. Her mother and siblings no where to be found. My husband found her, took her to a vet and had her checked out and brought her home. I bottle fed her and was up and down with her all night just like i was with my children when they were infants. She is 3 years old now and in her eyes I am momma. She will be un top of her little cat house and if i walk by she will jump onto my shoulder and stay there as i walk around the house. I am the only one she does that to and i love it. She also knows that if she is caught doing something she knows she isnt suppose to do all i have to do is say her name stearnly and she stops automatically. She listens and minds better than my kids dog does.

Dog lovers tend to be more evil than cat lovers or dog/cat lovers. It's a male macho thing mostly. Somehow, a man's penis is connected to a dog's. Apparently, it seems, the bigger the dog - the bigger the penis. Just like a fancy car is an extension of a man's penis - so is his dog. Really, men most often could give a crap about their dogs except to show off their manliness. Why do you think that so many big dogs are in the pound as opposed to the small ones? It's just plain wrong.

Because dog lovers don't like how cats don't give as much attention as dogs do. Personally I prefer cats but still like dogs. I don't see any reason why dog-lovers always seem to hate cats, dogs are actually more prone to seriously hurting humans than cats. All cats do is scartch you when they're playing or in self defence. I have a dog-loving friend who got bitten badly by a dog and still hates cats even though none of them have ever hurt him in anyway!

I love both. They both have wonderful, but different qualities. Right now I only have a dog because my dog doesn't like cats.

I don't agree and I don't disagree with you and your question. Many dog lovers, hate cats and I wouldn't say they all hate them thiough.

My sister in law hates cats because she allowed her dog to chase her neighbors cat and the cat swiped at her dog. I told my sister in law it's her own fault, if she had kept her dog on a leash (which is required by law) there would have been no reason for the cat to defend itself. ANY human would defend themselves if they were cornered!
