Like when Captain Kirk was dispatched to the planet with black n white faced people? He had to help the discussions between the people with white leftside/black rightside faces and people with black leftside/right whiteside faces.

Or when Jimmy Carter moderated between Sadat and Begin at Camp David with the result of signing the Peace Treaty.

In my state, it's called a conflict mediator...it's someone who is assigned to be there, to help keep things civil, so they don't get out of hand....like when someone is going through a nasty divorce, or child custody dispute.
