You can't help. He has to find out for himself. If he gets arrested for his drunken "pranks", let him sort it out for himself. He is obviously old enough to drink, so he is old enough to face the consequences.
This is the most difficult situation a parent or anyone who loveds and addict faces. However, we can't fix people who don't want to be fixed.

He will probably grow out of it eventually.

that's why they call it Demon alcohol, or drugs it makes you do things you wouldn't normally, the only thing that will change things since it sounds like he has no control is if he quits but he has to be willing and ready....Good luck....

Sounds like there is a deep rooted issue, for his acting out. Talk with him about seeking counseling!

show him a video tape of himself drunk. Show him what that nasty stuff does to your wonderful child. Hopefully he will see the err of his ways.

It has to be his decision to get help, otherwise it won't work. I know it is hard. My brother has been an alcoholic for over 30 years. He finally admitted himself to a treatment facility 2 years ago where he stayed for months. He has a family but could not go back because he would have started drinking again so my father stepped in, picked him up when he was released and brought him to live with him and his wife for 6 months or more. He went to several meetings a day, got a part time job and started going to nursing school. He totally changed his life around! What we did as a family is tell him we love him and care for him. We never told him what to do, we did not judge him.

tell him he's a dipshit and you are ashamed of him. oh and by the way he probably steals sober too. thats not a 'normal' drunk thing. fighting - yes, lies - yes, trouble w/ law - yes. stealing - no. he's probably stealing sober and when you catch him he blames it on the liquor. don't buy that BS cop out.
