I quit smoking--- YEAH! How am I going to STAY quit when most people just say how hard it is to stay quit? Ugh....

I pretty much hate everything about smoking, except for the part when I'm stressed and just take that 5 mins to myself from everyone, DH, kids, work, etc. It just seems to have a calming effect on my nerves. So I guess that is where I am mostly afraid of relapse. I am dealing with a lot in my life, stay-at-home mom to my young girls, f/t student working on my 2nd Degree, and work few hours as a DJ to earn extra-cash, but I have this feeling that I'm always going to be dealing with a lot, b/c who isn't U know ??? We all have problems, stress, issues, or whatever! No one is exempt from pain. So I guess I just have really become one with that thought and realize if that's the case ---- Then when will I ever be READY? Well I am now and I hope to stick with it, any suggestions, ideas from anyone who has stopped in past 5 years would be extremely kind.

10 weeks since I quit. It's getting easier and I think about it less and less. I think I am a smoker who has decided not to smoke today!

Feeling a bit grumpy are we? Stay on the course...to hell with what other people think...I did it. Feel the grumpiness, the anger and express it safely ...(pillow, screaming into, pummelling) whatever gets that frustration OUT of your system so that you are tired and have surrendered...crying whatever it takes..stare it down quietly...no one elses battle but yours...do it...stop blaming others...prove it by becoming the change YOU want to see and then you can stick it to them later...because you are going to have to be direct from now on..NO SMOKESCREEN

you will need to tune into your own body all over again to get the health routine just right...ask your body...listen to your body...work with accepting how shyte it is without the drug and sit it out craving after craving...watch out for over drinking and elminate caffiene and sugar in realistic well planned steps

Good for you! Consider that they keep adding more carcinogens and eventually just one cigarette will shorten your life by about 2 weeks. Ive been chainsmoking like a beast lately and ive noticed that its SO hard to breathe and my throat feels just about closed up. my neck is so tense. Im really wanting to quit, but on the other hand im wanting to go smoke one right now as I type. Strange how addiction works. Gum helps if you want to keep your mouth occupied. Or theres these honey straws that I tried before. cancer<diabetes

I stopped in 1987 (from 50 a day) and find that 3 things help: The smell of an old ashtray: The distraction of a happy thought that doesn't relate to smoking: the mantra: I'm one puff away from a packet a day. Good luck!

I think you have to visualizing yourself not ever smoking ever. It is like a light switch that is off. you flipped it and have control of flipping it on but won't. I was much like you with it just the time out pleasure and social aspects associated with smoking I loved. I can smell a cigar that someone has fired upped and feel my nostrils flare while I inhale the aroma. Rurrrrgh....I haven't smoked in two and a half years after smoking for about twenty but I can get through eating a great meal and still think what that topper would be to light up a cigarette still. I just remember I flipped that switch mentally for my own reason and I am not switching it back on.

Interesting perpective- I think another incentive I am looking forward to is having my taste buds come back 10x and also being able to exercise w/o feeling like im going to pass out, good for you also and I appreciate ur response!

Try thinking about what you can do with the extra money if you can stay off of them. If you have an idea of what you spent on them before, slide that amount into a jar (or savings account) to save up for college, or something nice for your girls, or a trip with your girls. Then, every time you have the urge to buy cigarettes, think about it in terms of taking money away from your girls and weigh that against your desire to smoke.

That is a very good idea, and there is something that I've been wanting to invest in for over 3 years now, but don't have the money, and that is starting my own handbags and sunglasses business, I have a lot of good ideas as far as investment! Thanks for reminding me, very cool motivation for my day, and ultimately I would like to get my girls involved with this investment!

There you go! I think it will be easier to stay off of them if you think of it as stealing money from your kids each time. I know it's harsh, but you need something harsh to jolt you back on track when you get tempted.
