No, I think they should be encouraged and expanded because it's one of the few places where you can be fairly sure they're not going to build a shopping mall and there will actually be green stuff growing.

The Forest Lawn cemeteries here in Southern California have things for the living - they have museums and one has an art gallery with great openings (live music, wine and munchies), they tent to have historical themed buildings also that they have events centered around. It's nice - like a park where you don't have to worry about stepping in dog poo.

Personally I love graveyards, the history, the names, pondering their lives. I grew up in New England and some graves were from the 17th century. I find them peaceful and fascinating.

Graveyards are used for the living as a place to mourn their dead and honor them. Why anyone would consider grief and homage "stupid" boggles the imagination.

They are for the living. The dead have little say with what you do to their body. Everybody has their own way, but in the US there are very few ways that are legal.

Actually they are used for the living...they go there to grieve.

If by "used for the living" you mean we should be building expensive, unaffordable condos or mini malls, I disagree. I think one day soon cremation will be mandatory because they'll need more environmentally unfriendly golf courses anyway.

That's a swell idea. Parks and recreation places are not profitable unfortunately. I like your way of thinking though. I wish more felt that way.

Yes I do, dead bodies are useless and serve no productive purpose and should be cremated. Burying them is truly a waste of good real estate.

Of course I agree with all that you have said, the big question is how to convince the `death squad` who make millions out making fools of us that it`s a prehistoric practice?

It's not that we have a shortage of land. We just choose to live on top of each other. Personally, I plan to be cremated, but I won't begrudge anyone who wants a burial.

Cemeteries are an unconscionable waste of resources and land. Everyone should be cremated and then either disposed of or kept in a mausoleum. A building takes up much less space than a cemetery.

People have some right to decide what they want done with their bodies when they die. Have some respect for the dead.

There are mausoleums, if you want your loved one to be separate from the rabble.
