I think that TV 'news' has become more about 'drama' +/or pitting 'experts' against each other than real news. U think?

I used to trust Walter Cronkite and later Tom Jennings, but most of the rest of them and their programs....

I think you are right....it has turned into scripted entertainment.
Rather then informing people of events and situations.
It has become a way to manipulate peoples thoughts and feelings.

You got it--manipulate people's thoughts and actions. I remember beginning to listen to the BBC when I was about 20. I noticed right away that they just gave you the NEWS, nothing more. Does anyone do that now?

The way i found was to opt out of mass media. There are some good sources out there....but watch out...if they are good...they tend to get brought out by the big names.

Now that Viacom and a few others control most of the world media, informative and thought-provoking reports are infrequently on offer. The intent of their various venues, apparently, is to shock and awe; to merely titillate…and of course, to advertise.

Don't you just "love" the way they get 4 liberal experts to beat-up on one conservative them claim that they aren't biased and have balanced news.

Most of us were borne during the day but it wasn't yesterday.

I'd like to say that news has simply become another form of 'entertainment', but truthfully, when I go to a news channel like CNN, I mute the volume and just read the news banner at the bottom of the screen.
Someone said in anither post that the news is delivered to us to influence and sway our thinking and understanding of what's going on, and I agree with that.
I also suspect that the news programmers believe that we (the public0 don't know how to think anymore, so it's their job to do the thinking for us. Why else all the pundits, and the 'talk-show' character of today's news casts.
I love the way that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert skewer the news media.
