I'm looking to set up my own website, quickly and efficiently. It's quite important so I need it as soon as possible. Can someone reccomend where I can do this? Thank you! :) X

I used to always struggle with this because there weren't many choices. I'd recommend trying out some free sites to get used to maintaining a site, and nowdays, Googlesites would probably be my recommendation, or simpler, a blog from Blogspot, which can act as a sort of mini site with different sections.

Past that, you need to look up webhosts and find one with an option that you like - the one I have, Hostmonster, has been great for me so far - you're likely to pay $4-8 per month and the longer a contract you pay for (2 year is usually the max), the little bit cheaper it is, so you're looking at about $100/year maybe a bit more or less depending on the "package" and contract you choose.

You usually get hosting space and a domain name for this price. Initial setup for a site and domain name can be confusing and require research and knowledge of some fairly technical concepts, though it's gotten better and more user friendly over the years, and most come with a lot of free pre-setup websites and the ability to install forums and content management systems and more sites and shopping carts. So look at having a lot of bandwidth (300+ MB), email accounts, ftp accounts, subdomains, SQL databases and apparently my host has unlimited hosting space, which sounds great.
