I want your opinion on this...?

what do you think of someone who complains to an employer that: " That girl is a bitch and I will never come into your store again as long as she is working there". Just because that girl stood up for her rights ( not with rudeness but, firmly, yet politely) and wouldn't let that person treat her rudely just because they thought she had to stand there and take their rudeness and hostility? Do you think the customer is always right or do you think that people should act with more consideration and respect for others? Do you treat customer service reps this way just because you can? Do you think that an employee should loose their job because of this?

The customer is not always right... whoever came up with this is stupid. There are plenty of wrong and rude and bitchy people out there and they do not deserve good service if they are not going to act politely or maturely. I have worked in retail and that is the worst place for rude people. That and the restaurant service (which I have also worked).
I think people need to realize how hard these jobs really are, and how unfair it is to deal with rude people all day. If the customer was doing something wrong or being so rude that it was hurting people then that person should have been kicked out of the store. And if the employee had to stand up for themselves then they should not loose their job because of it.
These types of situations should be dealt with by having the manager or supervisor come over and deal with that customer. and then the employee should file a complaint if there is a problem and they are not being protected in their workplace.

On the other side, there are plenty of workers that are rude to customers and do not do their job, and these people should be fired.

The customer may not always be right....but he pays your wages. "There is nothing more important to a company than a satisfied customer". Those are the words of Sam Walton who built Walmart into the worlds largest retailer.

Would it surprise you to know that many companies actually test their employees customer service skills by sending in "ringers" who deliberately make it difficult for the employee.

If as an employee, you are unsure as to how to handle a particular situation involving a customer, immediately ask your boss. This not only shows your supervisor that you value customer satisfaction but will also save you from making a costly mistake.

There is never a good reason to be rude to someone in a store just because they work there. The customer isn't right to pull that kind of thing, a person derserves your respect until they prove they don't. There is no such thing as servitude in a store. When the original slogan "the customer is always right", was coined, It only referred to the customer's right to like or dislike a product a store carried.

i don't treat people like this, nor would i complain about an employee, nor would i fire an employee over such a situatioin. HOWEVER some places have corporate policies that an employee MUST be terminated if a customer claims that the employee was rude. in addition most employment is "at will" so an employee can be fired for any reason or "no reason at all". i think that the customer was obviously a jerk for this sort of behavior and should realize that it is not worth it for ANYONE to be terminated from a position when times are not plentiful.

I have worked in the public eye most of my life and have decided to go low key.The phrase"customer is always right" makes me sick! Yes they pay our wages but at what cost to us?I now deliver newspapers and very rarely have to put up with ppl.I think the public in general are stupid are arrogant when dealing with a sales person of whatever sort. For example,I could never be a waitress because I would intentionally spill hot soup on some jerk that was being rude or difficult!

no the manager has the only right to fire her and his complaint is taken note of. If he was the only customer around the whole day then maybe. But business will always have stupid workers and also stupid shoppers. So don't be worried about getting fired. If you were, you wouldn't write about it, but have long gone terminated the minute it happened. Business always has stress and that's part of dealing with rude customers.

In that position, and the job opportunity's being so poor, the girl could have just bit her tongue. I don't think it's right, but it is a job, and we have to bow down sometimes in life. Especially if no hands were layed on this girl.

As long as you handled it with respect there should be no need to lose your job. I think people are rude to sales reps and cashiers just because they usually get away with it. It is usually totally uncalled for. I am glad you took up for yourself. If your boss didn't then your boss is a fool.

I owned a gift shop and had several employees over the years I had it. This can be rather touchy if the owner or manager is not present when a situation like this comes up. It's a he said, she said thing sometimes. For business sake, you try to take care of the customer. However, there are some rude, ridiculous, abusive folks out there and I never expected my employees to put up with nasty behavior. I didn't want that sort of customer coming in my store and I would back my employees in such cases. However, one of my employees was blatantly rude and several customers complained. She was fired. It's the manager's or owner's responsibility to be aware of problems and situations and to know how her employees are conducting themselves on a day to day basis.

no they should not be fired for sticking up for themselves to an anal, over-bearing customer. it takes guts to stick up for yourself; too many people, especially women, never do. i know times are tough and a certain amount of 'taking it' is in order, but when a certain line is crossed; you cannot just let it go. too much of your self-respect and esteem are at stake to do so.

The customer is not right, but you kinda need to kiss their ***** and suck it up if you want to continue to get paid.

When I was managing a salon, I came across many customers like this.... one was so bad I told him that he either needed to sit in the chair like a grown up or leave in the middle of his haircut.... I ended up following through, He left with his hair half done... I was not about to let him treat my staff like that for no reason! since then being in a non management position I have noticed not many managers stand up for their employees and we can get in trouble for standing up for ourselves... I don't think that's right in the least
