I was told last night by a woman that i have "Ugly Duckling" syndrome, what is that?

She told me i thought too low of myself and that i was a very handsome guy, and if she didnt know how loyal i was to my girl she would have tried to steal me away weeks ago when she first met me. what is she talking about when she says Ugly duckling syndrome and how did i come about getting it? and is it a good thing, or bad?
thanks for all who answer

It's a person who was never naturally good-looking growing up, but turned out to be later in life. However, they still carry the low self-esteem around from when they weren't so attractive. "Ugly ducklings" are generally extremely nice compared to the other pretty people.

I think she is saying that you think you are not good looking when you really are. The ugly duckling thought he was ugly because the swans were so beautiful. Eventually he realized that he was beautiful in his own way. I think that's what she's getting at. She is also letting you know that she's into you. And maybe trying to help build your self esteem a bit. She's right. You are perfect just the way you are. :)

Ugly Duckling Syndrome is in reference to the fairytale 'The Ugly Duckling' when a 'duck' is teased while he is young by all the other ducks because he doesn't look right, sound right, etc. In the end it turns out he was never a 'duck' at all but a swan. Once he is grown up all the ducks were jealous of how graceful and beautiful he had become. In essence, she is telling you that when you look at yourself you are doing so only in comparison to others around you. While in reality you are attractive (or handsome as she called it) to those who matter to you most.

the ugly duckling thought he was ugly because he was trying 2 be something he wasnt,[a duck]if he had of known that he was a swan he wouldnt have felt so ugly.i guess that if she used this reffrence with you she thinks that you dont think that your handsome enough.it is a good thing,as in her own way she was paying you a compliment, and i guess that you'got the syndrome'from not thinking highly enough of yourself.

It's when you see yourself as ugly, but others don't see you that way. Smile more!
