If anyone can give an adequate explanation as to how they reconcile the idea of fate/destiny/God's plan with free will, I will give them a cookie.

Free will and fate are antithetical concepts, yet most people don't give it enough thought to notice.

Do they still control their brain? Pinning all the blame for stuff on a thing called fate is a cop out.

Responsibility and belief are not related in any way. Belief is an internal standard (you hold certain beliefs) - responsibility is an external one (you ARE held responsible).

Yes. As long as someone has the ability to think and know that actions have consequences, they are most definitely responsible for their actions.

I somehow believe there is more than one type of fate. All was 'meant to happen' but it depends how good/bad you want it to be.

Well, you know the sayng, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse".The person may believe that he is fated to do or to be such-and-such; but the onus is on him, I believe, to do his best and most considerate / compassionate / loving thing in the circumstances.

Motivation does, I feel, have an effect on the amount of responsibility one has; but still there is karma generated if the action was harmful in any way. It is just more, if the harmfulness was deliberate.

The thing is, if possible, not to allow FEAR to guide your actions; as that would be a major reason for doing something harmful if you felt you were fated in a certain way.
