Pen versus Sword? I give you Mark Twain:

"Soap and education are not as sudden as a massacre, but they are more deadly in the long run".

Because the pen can be used to write propaganda, inspire revolution, and move hundreds, if not thousands of people to action.

the comparison here is between the spoken word as opposed to the written word.....
and the written word is most powerful of all as waiwera states
where the spoken word dissapates with the wind

Properly placed with enough force, a pen can kill.
A sword can't write properly, it can only scratch.

Yup... With a sword you may be able to cut off a few heads and arms etc., and enforce your rule over a few hundred people; but by writing a book that is widely read, you can influence thousands or more, and build up a ground-swell of solid support for your ideas that could bring down kings or governments! That's why they look upon treason and sedition as being so serious. "Words are more hurtful and more long lasting in effect than the thrown spear or sped bullet" - quotation (in effect) from a Master of Wisdom.

regardless of the semantic relationship there, this is ultimately comparing apples to oranges.

Because you don't understand the saying actions speak louder than words. It means don't just say your going to do something, do it. And writing a piece of literate to enlighten and inspire people to a just cause could be that something. It doesn't mean hat diction is useless, while force isn't.

if we were fighting and i wrote you a letter, saying that i fogive your behaviour towards me and i apoligise for the things i've done to you. i say that i have grown and learned that our discrepansies with each other are only painful to both of us, i would like to move on as reasonable adults and i'm deeply sorry for hurt i've caused. you will probably believe me and feel better that our differences can be set aside. but then one night as you leave your house i stab you to death in the gutter... which one spoke louder? which one is more believable? which one is mightier? my pen was mightier than your sword, but unfortunately for you, my actions spoke louder than my words ;) both sayings are true.
