Unfortunately, charters and vouchers don't vote, and choice interferes with the total government control they're going for.

Study after study has demonstrated that charter schools, even with their ability to "cherry pick" their student population, offers no better, and sometimes worse, education than public schools.

Recently in Florida, a charter school went bankrupt. The head of the school was provided a severance of approximately $500,000 for that failure while spending on students was only about $300,000. Charter schools are only a scheme for enriching the few at the expense of the many.

Further, vouchers do not pay for the entire costs of tuition. If we are to go in that direction, and "privatize" education, then vouchers should be accepted as payment in full at any school, public or private, where they are presented, and they should be compelled to accept any student.

Charter schools are only one more example of the wealthy attempting to isolate themselves from society.

You must not personally know anyone who actually sent their children to charter schools. None of my friends were rich, so stop making ridiculous assumptions. Oh, and their kids got good educations. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2012/09/07/public-charter-school-mov_n_1865151.html

Indie42 I know children both homeschooled and charter schooled. I am amazed at the geographical and scientific ignorance of the children from charter schools. They are trained, but not educated.

Everyone's taxes are going into public schools. Even the taxes of people who don't have school-aged children. How much sense does it make to allot separate tax money towards charter schools or vouchers just so that some people who can't afford private schools won't have to send their children to school with poor and minority kids ? Wouldn't it make more sense to use that money to bring those public schools up to par ?

This isn't about private schools. We pour so much money into our public schools but still rank about 26th.in the world. So more money is NOT the answer.

One of the problems is, most of those things don't actually improve the schools. The lives of lucky students are charmed but as long as people can just abandon the bad school large swath of over children won't be educated.
