The penalty will be cheap and you'll only need to get insurance when you are sick, save your money until then. If we had that deal with car insurance we wouldn't get coverage until we got in a wreck. That would be a great deal!
"Cheap" won't last long dear. We now have a system where those insurance companies have incentive to lobby congress to raise that penalty. They will do it and congress - always eager for new sources of revenue and with a ready scapegoat in those that aren't responsible - will do it too. Anyone who thinks this isn't going to end up costing more is crazy.
Cheap? It's almost two grand. Good thing they passed this "affordable" health care act without reading it. The healthcare system will have longer waits, higher costs, and less incentives for doctors, who we should be keeping happy. Not the insurance companies.
It's the federal government. If they want they'll just take it right out of your check and you can apply for food stamps to make up the difference.
