If it's humane to euthanize your pet, why is it so terrible if a terminally ill person wants to call Dr. Jack?

Death assisted suicide.

I value my pets lives as much as human lives. I think it should be legal and encouraged to euthanize a human who is terminal, suffering, wants to end it already. Just as I've seen the pleading in the eyes of a beloved pet too ill to go on, so it is also in the elderly.

Rather than waste away connected to machines, miserably in pain, unable to have any quality of life, and just running up incredible medical costs, raising insurance rates, etc.

I had someone ask me to assist them. If I had a way to do so, I would have. Dr. Kevorkian was justified, and many people were willing to seek his help. As a last resort. Aging and disease are difficult to endure. When there is nothing left but agony, sadness and expenses, one should be allowed to choose their demise.

More controversial than abortion that's for sure. Along the same lines. And what about fertility drugs? That's playing God just as much as or more than these two ideas.

Humans think about themselves as the most important beings of the entire universe, therefore killing a human is way more terrible than killing an animal.

Of course, there is no evidence of us being such an important thing, but our ego is depending on it.

It seems to me that people are putting more value on a pet's life than their suffering relative. I think we live in a sadistic society that enjoys extending the pain and misery at the tail end of people's life. The longer the pain, and the more the pain, the better. A lot of corporations profit extensively from this sadism.

I wrote 2 papers. One being for Doctor assisted suicide and the other against it (my English prof wanted us to be able to argue both sides of a point) I can't find where I saved them on my computer so I will give you the link to one of the sources that I used..

it is a pretty good list of pros and cons for doctor assisted suicide...

I have no idea ! It's just as wrong to let a person suffer as it is a pet. But I think because a pet can't Tell you whats wrong, its supposed to be best to just go ahead and put them out of their misery.

People have bizarre beliefs about souls and an afterlife when they're considering people's care, but they approach an animal's well-being rationally.

Hence Kevorkian is sinister, but a vet is humane.

I wouldn't dwell on it too much, it doesn't make sense. You'll just give yourself a headache.

I believe this is what's known as a hypothetical question.

Sorry, I mean rhetorical.

Well, I suppose that different people would look at the issue in different ways. It would depend mainly on your view of euthanasia, but also your view on an animals life. Many people hold the value of an animals life in a completely different esteem than they hold a humans life. If someone puts more value on a human than an animal life, then it is understandable that they would be for euthanizing an animal and against euthanizing a person. I personally am for euthanasia in both cases of humans and animals, but this is only in extreme cases. If there is absolutely nothing left for medical science to do for the sick and dying, and the remainder of their life will be filled with extreme pain, then I am all for euthanizing. I do not agree with euthanizing animals that cannot be adopted, or who's surgery or treatment is very expensive.

In my view, it's not terrible. In health care, I've lost sleep over the suffering of many persons living their last year or two. No quality of life, only suffering. That's terrible. The saying is..."we're kinder to animals" when it comes to end-of-life suffering.
