Q&A Home   >  Community   >  EP

My friends next door new roommate is from guatemala. Well she says "aw, man. my necklace broke". and my friend who is from russia says to her (with a heavy russian accent lol) "its not broke it's broken". i thought it was pretty rude since she's not english shes guatemalan so why should she know the difference?

I don't correct anyone's English. I'll let them know if I can't understand them, writing or talking to me but other than that, there is no point. I'm pretty sure that my grammar looks like crap to most people, so why should I correct someone else when I don't truly know myself?

I know how hard it is to learn another language! As long as you can get your point across you are doing well!

No, and I would only ask for a clarification if you asked or I was having trouble understanding. I do think it's rude.

the way you presented it to us "aw, man. my necklace broke" is correct, so your russian friend was incorrect in attempting to correct her, and you should try to correct those who pronounce things incorrectly as i helps them understand the language better.

Its not that she should know the difference, but understand the difference. knowledge is power. and more appealing in the international market, along with fluent use of language

I would...cause if you are gonna live in the USA...then you might as well speak the language correctly...that's way better than chewing it up and spitting it out...

Listen...If you moved to russia...do you think the russians are gonna learn your language...NO...you learn theirs...if you move to China...do you think they are gonna learn your language...NO...you learn theirs...IMHO...If you hate your country so much that you move to another country...then that means you learn the new countries language...cause that is your new home...

I might if we were friends and I knew you were trying to learn English or if you were trying to tell me something and I couldn't understand what you meant. I usually don't do that kind of thing unless 'm pretty sure the person would want to be corrected.
