They don't make their real money off their pay. Check the figures and you'll see that within a few years in congress most of these guys start raking in the dough from private investments. They just left a huge loop hole in their insider trading legislation and last year the corrupt jerks even seriously debated allowing themselves to vote on issues concerning companies they own stock in. Meanwhile the lobbyists are spending 3.4 billion dollars a year supposedly just to "talk" to these bozos.<br />
Occupy Wall Street has it right, If these guys had their way they'd move congress right next door to the NY Stock Exchange. Hence, part of the motivation among republicans to maintain 40 year low tax rates for the corporations. They want to protect their real money.
They'll only declare around $150,000 or whatever they have to. The rest is under the table and paid by bribe anyway.
