No, it doesn't. It means you need to be careful, though. "Blacking out" is actually a type of fugue state, and the scary thing about it is that if you are trully blacked out, your brain doesn't store the time in that state in memory. Meaning, its not that you did something and forgot about it, and then can remember it later, its like you did something, but the memory of doing that thing DOES NOT EXIST. You'll never remember. Further, once you begin blacking out, you will black out everytime you excessively consume alcohol, and over time, the amount you will need to drink to black out lessens. Some people are alcoholics for decades and never experience a black out, while some casual drinkers may blackout after drinking for a short time. It depends on your bodies chemistry. So, if you know this, and continue to drink excessively, you might have a problem, in my opinion anyway.

No.

But it does send up a huge red flag telling them that perhaps they ought to cut back.

no...but it means it will likely hapen again when you drink...the fact that someone would carry on and drink despite that would proubly make them an alcoholic...I used to black out . I just don't chance it anymore

Ask yourself this....

Is it common for a non-alcoholic person to black out while drinking? The answer is, 'No it is not'. Therefore.... if you have blacked out while drinking, you have a drinking problem. End Of Sentence. The average person should not consume more than 2-3 glasses of anything... it's just not physically healthy. Alcohol is not something your body "needs" (the way it needs water, oxygen, food, etc) and if your body reacts by "blacking out" then you should take it as a hint that you've consumed an excessive amount of alcohol. Really, there's no reason to get so drunk that this happens... it's just irresponsible -- it's about as smart as playing Russian Roulette.

if you asked this question in regards to someone else, and not yourself.... please take whatever action you need to get your friend some help... because they DO have a problem if this is happening to them.

No. Unless they're "blacking out" every day, all the time. In fact, I think a lot of alcoholics are so used to the alcohol that they DON'T "black out".

Drinking way, way too much in one instance doesn't make an alcoholic any more than accidentally hitting an animal while driving makes one a serial killer.

That being said, once it isn't an accident anymore, once it becomes frequent behavior, circumstances change dramatically.
