Yes, I think so. The meaning of this phrase, for me, is that if the fool invests himself in his folly with the goal of understanding and working through it (and his failure), he will eventually come through the other side with a more complete understanding of his folly and/or character weakness, and this is acquired wisdom. Wisdom is earned, and so a fool is wisdom's larvae, or something to that effect.
