Punishment for crimes in America is almost arbitrary. We have prisons full of drug offenders , people who are not dangerous and were hardworking average people who have no prior criminal record supporting families , and got caught in the wrong state with the wrong amount and get sentenced to 10 years in prison. And then you have celebrities or children of politicians who get caught driving drunk, sometimes even hurting someone who get off with a slap on the wrist. Or rapists who are let out after 5 years and do it again. So yours is a good question. But it would take a billion dollar overhaul of the American justice system to make sentences fit the crime. But just a change in the laws about drugs , i.e. more lenient laws would ease rampant over crowding in prisons and it costs thousands of dollars per person per year to keep someone in prison. Money that could feed the homeless.

People would stop commiting the more heinous crimes as frequently because they would actually get more than just a slap on the wrist.

People would actually be safe from all the crime that currently is going on right now...You wouldn't be afraid of going to bed at night, could walk down the streets, but alas that is all a pipe dream since the liberals control the courts and we can't hurt all those people who don't really mean it.....what a crock of crap
