If things always work out for the best, how do you explain bad things that happen?

Sometimes, life takes a bad turn and never gets better. People get sick and die, go broke and end up homeless, etc. You don't always learn and improve so things don't always work out for the best. I think it's naive to believe that. Convince me otherwise :)

Your point is too narrow. If you don't improve yourself, or if you get sick, someone else will take your place, so it's good for him. Every bad is for some good.

Hmm, so you're saying that when you tell someone who is going through hell not to worry because things always work out for the best, you don't mean that it will necessarily work out well for them but their loss will be someone else's gain?

Philosophically speaking you may have many different approaches, but statistically speaking everything turns to be OK.

Many of my bad experiences have made me better. Experience can be a good teacher. But it is not always easy, huh?

sounds insensitive but.....bad events signify turning points. yeah it f***ing sucks that bad things happen, and we all go through them, but if we didn't then would there have been anything learned in life? Changed perspectives arise after bad situations, and we then progress, then things eventually work out for the best.

it won't get any better unless that person either changes their attitude, learns an important life improving lesson, or if all else doesn't work, comes to terms or accepts his/her downfall. Blissfulness is a form of coping.

The key words here are "...work out for the best..." That doesn't say that it started good and worked out for the best, because it was good from the start, so it must mean that "bad things" happened and will work out for the best, right?
