Nope, the old saying is "Find a penny and all day you'll have good luck", nothing is said about which side is up.

I just leave it. It's too much effort to pick up a penny these days. I would have to pick up 106 of them just to by 1 thing at the Everything's $1 store. They should just stop making them and round all of our currency to the nearest nickel.

They've talked of doing that and I wonder why they haven't. One of these days, the dollar bill will be about as obsolete as the penny is now.

Considering that they are germ-laden (most likely stepped on) and in this crazy post 911 world where a terrorist might have put poison or some other agent on this penny, why on earth is ANYONE picking it up???

I always pick it up. I remember this from when I was a kid; "find a penny and pick it up, all day long it will bring you luck. Find a penny and let it lie, all day luck will pass you by".

Not every time, but I do find myself running that little line through my head every so often before deciding whether it's worth picking it up.
