If you had total amnesia and had to relearn everything would you act like a child?

I'm talking about complete and total amnesia (global amnesia?). Or would you learn things a lot quicker than a child and be back to acting in an adult fashion quickly? Would you act child-like at all? Would you act like a baby straight after losing your memory? Just curious.

If you forgot EVERYTHING--including social norms, acceptable behaviors, how to do learned behaviors like using the restroom and eating, and adult language--yes, you would probably be reduced to infant-like behaviors.

wakeupkaren	Posted Jul 25th, 2009 at 11:27PM there are many dif. parts of the brain that store memory. and all of them store memories of dif. kinds. some store functions and language, etc. others store data. others store the story of our lives. for most, i think total amnesia is when you forget your name and the life you lead. but language, numbers, manners, etc remain intact. but i don't know really. serenityprayer	Posted Jul 25th, 2009 at 11:29PM I don't think so. There is language-based memory, motor/muscle memory, and procedure-based memory. For Alheimer's patients and so on that can't remember instructions, you can have them repeat a task several times and they end up performing it correctly later although they can't remember having done it before. So tasks such as walking, eating with utensils, etc, are stored in motor planning & programming centers which have nothing to do with whether you remember your name or your life history.
