If you knew your child was mentally unstable and capable of causing mass harm, would you notify the authorities?

Q&A Home   >  Community   >  EP

Many of these campus shooters and mass-gunmen families tell of years of mental instability and the over-interest in weapons. If your child were exhibiting these tendencies, what would you do?

You would be surprised at the number of parents that would turn a blind eye and think the behaviour was 'normal'.

Unfortunatly no I would not be suprised. I grew up as a teenager back in the 90's. Even then I saw a lot of parents who refused to believe that their kid was up to no good. Even when teachers and friends would tell them countless times. Untill they were standing in court in front of the judge and by then it was too late.

Yes I would. And if he or she had been like that for many years as a child I would wonder why no intervention was tried before.

Notify the authorities, try to get as much help for them as possible because who am I to allow the behaviour to fester in their minds then to kill innocent people(especially other children) when I could have stopped it in the first place.

I'm sure I'd have taken action before that became necessary.

I often ask why the parents of the two, now infamous for mass killing, students of Columbine didn't take action sooner. Both students exhibited these tendencies, but the parents just thought it was a phase. Really? Just a phase? Your son/daughter constantly referring to guns and killing is not a phase folks!!!!

My inlaws have a daughter who has been a klepto for years. They ignored her siblings' pleas to seek help and denied that she stole from me. She is now paying restitution. Its much easier to sweep things under the carpet than accept liability. They should probably all go in the clink together.

Yes for tje public' s protection and for tje protection of my child since the authorities woul probably take them down when they tried to cause mass destruction.
