If you were a hamster where would you hide?
Our hamster chewed his way out of his cage last night and is loose in my house any ideas of where to look...

They like to nest. When they escape, they usually find clothes or towel or something that they can chew up for nesting materials and they like to hide under furniture. If you have a cat, pay attention to where he is hanging out because, he will know where it is.

Also, we always found that, the hamster actually likes the safety of its cage. So, if you just put his cage out on the floor somewhere, he will go back to it...

When I was little we had a hamster who was always escaping! The first time he escaped we took the house apart searching for him. My dad even took the side of the bath off because we thought we could hear the hamster scratching. In the end we had to give up. A couple of days later the hamster re-appeared - back in his cage having a nap! Each time he escaped he stayed away a little longer but he always turned up. Once he was missing for weeks and then appeared one night in front of the fire, warming his little paws! He lived quite a long life for a hamster and always came home.

Firstly I agree with:
Peterson1964 "Also, we always found that, the hamster actually likes the safety of its cage. So, if you just put his cage out on the floor somewhere, he will go back to it..."
In addition I would say puy his favorite food in it! And Place it near the closest wall. It is a proven fact rodents will run the perimeter of a room on the wall, or make trail of tiny peices of it leading from the wall to the cage. If this does not work. Get safe capture rodent/ lg mice traps and put along a wall in all your rooms. Believe me, you dont want the lill bugar loose long.... It would become destructive in no time.
Best of luck.

Yes. They chew into the couch and hide.

But if I were a hamster I would definitely hide in Rod Stewart's butt.

Hi. Keep the faith, they are resourcefull little guys. Our hamster (Biggy Smalls) was once gone for 5 weeks (!!!) and then we found him...alive and a bit worse for the wear, but otherwise alright. I suggest looking behind everything that backs to a wall and to look for his droppings as your clue. Leave a trail of food that leads back to his comfy home from any of those areas. keep the door closed to the room where his cage is if that is possible. Good luck!

my friend's bunnies used to hide under the bed. I'd check any cozy little place he could fit into.

I would hide in a closet... I would live amongst all the beautiful shoes. I just love shoes so much. I might starve to death but I would die happy.

My daughters hamster got away once - ti wound up between the walls. I think it made an alliance with the mice because we never found it.

Think I might hide behind te exercise wheel and dangle my limbs outta the cage.. that's if I'm stuck in a cage.. that'll probably be the most comfy place to hang out.
