If you were hiring a person which one would you choose ?
You are told that you have to choose between one of two people to hire for (permanent)
employment and you (must) choose between these two, The first person is early for their appointment well dressed polite college degree and all that, but as far as getting work done
forget this person is not a worker and is lazy as hell.
Second person is late has not taken a bath stinks to high heaven has below a high school
diploma foul mouth and will punch out anyone including your customers who cross his border, But as far as getting the job done he does the work of ten men and no one can hold a candle to him ...
remember you must choose between one of these two...
Choose..

I don't have to pick either. I would prefer someone who's punctual, polite, doesn't stink, doesn't punch people even though he's a hard worker. I will pick none. I will choose a third candidate

who said that. most employers want the whole package when hiring someone. if they neither is a great candidate; they'll keep searching.Like (1)

The stinky slob with fire in his belly...he won't last forever but while he's there, he'll get the job done....

None - There is no rule that says I must choose and both of them are not suitable! I'd rather doing the job myself than hiring a lazy *** or someone who stinks.

Your question is illogical - If you gave choices that are somewhat acceptable I would have chosen someone even if he has negative sides but you just gave suich bad choices. First person will not do the job, so there is no point of hiring him. Second person stinks and punches the customer and then you say he does his job really well, how that could be, the customers will just run away? Completely doesn't make sense.Like (1)

Firstly, I don't have to do as I'm told; I can stand on principle and be fired myself instead. This assumes my family will not starve if i do that.
Secondly, with such candidates, I would insist on a probationary period. If they can show they can overcome their inappropriate behaviour and be a good worker that can turn into a full job. In light of the second candidate's threatening behaviour to my customers, I would have to offer the chance to first candidate first.Like (1)

I would tAke the hard worker Abd influence him to better his hygiene ,
Since he is a worker a go getter there is possibility for him to better himself ... A lazy person will not learn or try he will br at the same pkacd stuck in his ow. Ways forever ! Actually I did hVe 2 employees just like this ... The slob went out Abd eventually opened his own company the lazy guy now does tattoosLike (1)

The second is the only choice. He will need some work, but will remain a valued, productive, sensitive employee for many years.

cause I don't like to pick up other peoples slack. My only concern with #2 is his attitude with the customers... but if that can be handled, I'll go with a good worker over a lazy man any day.Like (1)

Neither one is suitable for a job and I absolutely would not hire them. I don't care if this is beyond the scope of the question. I would call a temp agency and re-advertise the job.
