| Best Answer I would prohibit the use of personal automobile use within the city limits of all metropolitan areas. I would rebuild a rail infrastructure throughout the US.
That is step one, which would create jobs for professional drivers in major cities, since cabs, busses, and rails would be the only way to get around. Also jobs would be created working on the rail infrastructure.
Secondly, I would institute a single payer medical system run by the government. I would nationalize and dissolve the current health insurance industry for causing a health care crisis in this country. I would put limitations on excessive medical malpractice lawsuits so that more people would be motivated to become healthcare professionals. The cost of malpractice insurance is so high that many doctors have left the profession because they could make more money bagging groceries. The only people benefiting from the current system are insurance companies, and lawyers.
Thirdly, I would modify the Department of Housing and Urban Development, to, find housing for all people living within the borders of the United States. If no such housing exists, new buildings will be created, and if need be an entire city, which would create jobs for the people who have been moved there to live. Those who can not work due to disabilities will finally be able to get proper medical care, beyond what they can get from walking into an ER and being treated and streeted.
I would withdraw troops from countries that do not want our presence, they could either return to their regular jobs, for the reservists, and for the career military, I would put them to work making products to distribute to the American people.
All undocumented citizens, would be interviewed and should they decide they want to become part of the workforce, they would be granted 1 year work visas and at the end of that year, based on their willingness to work, they would become full US citizens.
Finally, I would extend aid to third world countries, including building infrastructure in places like Africa so that they can move their resources more effectively, and rise from the tribal conflicts they are now experiencing. I would work extensively to put the differences between ourselves and the rest of the world behind us and move into a global economy and not a nationalistic world with border disputes and resource wars. In order to survive 7-10 Billion citizens of Earth, we need to drastically change the way we look at nationalism and capitalism, and work towards a more global socialistic society where people work for the good of the society rather than greed.
