If you were offered the chance to live in an offworld colony, would you?

It depends on the circumstances. Today the only places humanity is likely to colonize are the moon and mars. Both unpleasant places.

We'd likely have to live in claustrophobic bio-domes and living and working would probably be difficult and dangerous. In the case of Mars it would take years to return to earth, so once there, you'd be stuck there for a long time.

So, I'd be disinclined to go that route.

If we were to travel to the nearest stars it would take a lifetime. So your children would probably be the ones doing the colonizing. Perhaps we'll develop some form of hyper-sleep or cryogenic stasis in the near future, but this would mean by the time you arrive at your new planet, everyone you know on earth would be dead. You'd have to leave everything and everyone behind.

If we could develop a means of propulsion that could take us to the stars in a reasonable amount of time, and the planet was somewhat earth-like I'd be up for the adventure. But that would mean traveling at many times the speed of light, which means time would slow down for you and again, the people on earth would be dead by the time you arrived at your destination. So once again, you'd be leaving everything behind permanently.
